My Author Journey So Far - April 9, 2017

Fresh off the heels of entering my first writing contest, I discovered yet another.
And this one is being hosted by Amazon UK!
(Note: As with using any services, especially on the internet, do your own research and exercise caution, and wisdom when attempting to use 3rd party services. No, I do not get paid to endorse anything. Not yet anyway.)

Things I've been up to lately:

1) The Amazon writing contest

So this Storyteller contest looks interesting:

So far, there seem to be many current entries.

Pros: Exposure en masse, sales, audience building, perhaps winning the jackpot?

Cons: Must sign up with Amazon UK, (your regular United States Amazon profile won't work) and you must select the KDP Select option, which doesn't allow for distribution to any other sites/stores

I'm considering it. If you look at the entries, they all seem to have the same publisher: Sold by: Amazon Media EU S.à r.l.  Perhaps it's a way to boost sales overseas? If so, everybody wins!

One thing I realized. In the terms, Amazon restricts so much of your distro rights, so I guess this contest is good for a one-off book, and not so much a series. I'm gonna look through my book ideas backlog for a one-off now!

2) I installed Grammarly for my web browser

Grammarly is one of the writing apps/software I recommend for any kind of professional writing you do. It fixes your spelling and punctuation if you let it.
I went to their website and downloaded this for my Firefox web browser.

It actually works like a dream!

I highly recommend for anybody enrolled at universities, freelance writers, novelists, journalists and copy writers everywhere. Use it before sending off that writing piece!

3) I downloaded an extension for Open Office

It's called Writer2ePub, and it converts your writing into a formatted epub document.

I haven't had time to test it. Right now I'm much too busy babysitting an eBay auction for a new graphics card, so I'll do a write-up on this later on. Enjoy the info!
